MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – Point Park (Pa.) University sophomore Daimere Stephens-Stewart qualified for nationals in the long jump to claim the first River States Conference Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award of the year. Point Park sophomore Damir Lomax earned the first River States Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for this year.
The award was named Jan. 17 and is for all events so far this indoor season.
Stephens-Stewart, from Pittsburgh, Pa., made his first NAIA qualification with a mark of 7.02 meters in the long jump. That came Dec. 3 at YSU and is currently ranked No. 1 in the RSC. He also ranks second in the conference in the triple jump with a season-best of 13.65 meters coming this past weekend Jan. 14 at Marietta. He is second only to teammate Collins Eze in the latter event.
Lomax, a native of Sicklerville, N.J., registered the top-ranked times in the RSC in two different track events, the 60-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash. He ran the 60-meter hurdles in a PR of 8.80 seconds on Dec. 3 at YSU. Lomax’s best time of 51.61 seconds in the 400 meters came on Dec. 10 at Tiffin.
Point Park will be in action again Jan. 21 at the YSU College Invitational.
